African President notes investment in ICT is key. From Bermama News Agency, Malaysia.
WINDHOEK, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- "No African child will die of hunger by 2015", Malawi's president Bingu Wa Mutharika said on Monday during the official opening of the 30th Heads of State and Government SADC Jubilee Summit underway in Windhoek, Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA) reported.
Wa Mutharika said Africa has sufficient food for all its children, but what they as leaders need to do is to apply science and technology to produce enough food for the continent in order to achieve food security and fight hunger, starvation and malnutrition.
"Africa has sufficient food, what we have to do now is to find ways on how to secure enough for everyone. It is not good to be food-insecure with food sufficient for all," he stressed.
He said leaders need to increase investment in information and communication technology (ICT) to enhance the flow of information, movement of people, goods and services, including the production and supply of agricultural inputs within and amongst nations, regions and the continent at large.
