The WSIS Stocktaking process is one of the outcomes of the WSIS Summit. For more than ten years, the WSIS Stocktaking process has been serving as a global repository for collecting and reporting on ICT-related projects fostering implementation of the WSIS outcomes. Stocktaking reports have so far given an overview of more than 7 000 activities from all over the world, implemented by international organizations, governments, the private sector, civil society and other stakeholders. Many projects and initiatives reflected in these reports highlight progress made towards achieving the WSIS goals as well as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Today, the WSIS Stocktaking community comprises more than 135 000 stakeholders who are eager to contribute regularly and work on the WSIS process year after year.
Over the years, the WSIS Stocktaking platform has proven to be an efficient mechanism for collection of data on implementation activities and sharing of best practices towards advancing development goals. Each year, on the occasion of the WSIS Forum, 18 WSIS stakeholders are awarded WSIS Prizes, a unique global recognition for excellence in the implementation of WSIS outcomes. The contest is open to all WSIS Stakeholders.
